Recycle, Reuse and Upcycle - ONE BOND STREET

For far too long our natural resources have been abused with politicians and anyone else not in the room an easy target to blame. Like you we have become a little tired of the bickering and procrastination by apparent policy makers. We are not environmental experts but we do all share the space so must take collective responsibility and action. I listen to David Attenborough, he talks sense, he makes us stop and consider the impact of our actions. I am saddened by images of turtles being strangled by discarded plastic bags, cities with their water arteries clogged by refuse, plastic lids, straws, then we have choking smog, respiratory disease, the list goes on. I could continue to share what you already know to be true.

We, at ONE BOND STREET, are almost there when it comes to sustainable packaging – peanuts made from biodegradable starch, recyclable cardboard and paper shipping cartons and now we have introduced upcycled products. Being honest, we are still travelling though, learning and looking for better products, a lower carbon footprint offer and to lead the way.

Our packaging peanuts are 100% biodegradable. But what does that really mean? They are capable of being broken down (decomposed) rapidly by the action of micro-organisms with no harmful by-products. After an extensive internal review period we landed on ECO FLO, a 100% biodegradable loose fill “peanut” made from starch. The fill is 100% compostable and adheres to European Standard EN13432. The packaging is also odourless, dust free and made from sustainable raw materials that are not genetically modified.

Our paper and cardboard packaging is recyclable. Did you know:

  • Over half of cardboard collected is used to make new cardboard boxes, and additional cardboard can be downcycled into paperboard (used for cereal boxes) or chipboard (often used for shoeboxes)
  • Making 1 ton of virgin cardboard requires 3 tons of trees
  • Recycling 1 ton of cardboard eliminates 9 cubic yards of landfill space

For our products we have a number of upcycled wooden sterling silver cufflinks, a Boeing 474-400, Vickers tank and a range of carbon fibre silver cufflinks, watch, jewellery and cufflink boxes. There is more in the pipeline as we finalise our designs for the upcycled ex-Royal Air Force Vulcan, Nirmod and Hawker Hunter aircraft. We recognize that even though we are leading the way with recycling, reusing and upcycling there is clearly a lot more to do.

So, if you are looking for something a little bit different, a gift minimizing its environmental impact, then ONE BOND STREET could help. We have a range of sterling silver cufflinks, ladies accessories, cufflinks, watch and jewellery boxes. Live fast, dress well and minimize your environmental footprint.
