The Prestigious British Hallmark: A Symbol of Quality, Purity and British Style - ONE BOND STREET

An emblem of quality, a badge of excellence, the hallmark is a guarantee of purity awarded to the finest precious metals - silver, gold and platinum - that can be found on all of One Bond Street’s sterling silver goods. This means that, from elegant and classic British themed cufflinks to luxury bespoke bangles, our sterling silver articles are crafted from the finest silver, before being assayed in London and given this stamp of approval by the British Assay Offices.

Not only does this prestigious stamp attest to the quality and purity of our sterling silver wares - our stylish cufflinks and bangles - it means they retain their distinctive British quintessence, at every single stage of their manufacture. A simply wonderful thought for any distinguished gentleman, hoping to maintain his refined, elegant and truly British style!

In the United Kingdom, the hallmarking of precious metals has been a long-standing tradition and, if you look closely, this little stamp can be discovered on most of your favourite high quality sterling silver jewellery, British themed cufflinks and bespoke bangles.  The story began with silver in the year 1300 when, tired of fraudsters, King Edward I decreed that no piece of silver ‘was to depart out of the hands of the workers’ until it had been assayed and then branded with a leopard’s head by the ‘guardians of craft’. Now there would be a guarantee that all sterling silver jewellery would be made from the purest of silver!

In 1327, Edward III granted a royal charter to the company of Goldsmiths in London, giving them the authority to enforce standards and ensure that the purest, highest quality, sterling silver and gold were being produced and sold. They did this in Goldsmith’s hall which, since 1478, has been home to one of the British assay offices and is likely to be where the name ‘hallmark’ came from! Indeed, this is now where One Bond Street’s fine British themed cufflinks and bespoke sterling silver bangles are individually assayed and awarded this prestigious symbol of purity. Alongside the customary hallmark of Great Britain, One Bond Street’s luxury silver sterling cufflinks are also stamped with an exclusive ONE assay mark, to give them a distinctive and elegant finish.

With hallmarks confirming their purity, One Bond Street’s British themed cufflinks and elegant bespoke bangles provide the perfect route to a suave and dapper, classic British style. To retain their luxury and stylish charm it’s a good idea to take extra special care of them. They are unlikely to tarnish, given the high quality sterling silver they’ve been crafted from but wouldn’t it be an awful shame if your best-loved set of One Bond Street cufflinks were to become scratched or misplaced or you’re favourite bangle, simply forgotten about? A fine wooden lacquered jewellery box offers the perfect solution and will even let you keep your hallmarked sterling silver articles on show, for all the world to see!
