Many a cultivated and debonair gent simply wouldn’t entertain the idea of attending a formal event without first adorning their shirt sleeves with an exclusive and magnificent set of sterling silver cufflinks, like those sold by luxury cufflink purveyors, One Bond Street. And it seems that there are a number of well-groomed celebrities and distinguished public figures who also like to live by this rule – especially where red carpet events and star-studded formal occasions are concerned.
Second in line to the British throne, Prince William, for instance, is a familiar cufflink connoisseur; wearing exquisite cufflinks for most of his public and private appearances. At his father, Prince Charles’ wedding, for example, the cultivated Prince sported a beautiful set of luxurious gold cufflinks which perfectly complemented his elegant dinner jacket and crisp white shirt, completing his regal and eminent guise.
Aside from the British monarchy, one of the best known celebrity cufflink enthusiast is much admired American actor, producer, director and activist, George Clooney; who is, aptly, nicknamed ‘Mr Cool’ by his adoring fans. Famed for his gracious, sophisticated and suave constitution, Clooney, often pairs elegant sterling silver cufflinks, like those sold by One Bond Street, with a luxurious designer suit and a crisp white shirt with an open collar. Taken together, this gives him a polished, refined and urbane exterior, that with his open collar, remains laid back; helping him to live up to his nickname: Mr Cool.
Stylish singer-song writer and actor, Justin Timberlake, is also famed for his penchant for sterling silver cufflinks. He often wears them to red carpet events with a tuxedo and bow tie ensemble which, just this year, earned him the title of one of the best dressed men at the Golden Globes. Eddy Redmayne, John Legend, Ryan Gosling and Donald Glover were all nominated as well, and, much like Timberlake, can often be found sporting the designer tux and cufflinks combination.
It is not just royalty and celebrities, however, that find cufflinks – sterling silver or otherwise - to be a necessity for formal events; a number of pre-eminent businessmen can often be spotted wearing these stylish fastenings. British entrepreneur and businessman, Peter Jones, for instance, is a well-known cufflink aficionado. With an estimated fortune of £475 million, he often appears on TV show Dragon’s Den, with an opulent and, no doubt, very expensive set of cufflinks on his shirt sleeves and has even launched a collection of his own.
Given the number of royal, famous and successful figures who wear them, it is clear that cufflinks, whether sterling silver, gold or otherwise, can be seen as an emblem of wealth, class and refinement. They endow whoever wears with exactly the debonair, cultivated and well put together appearance they desire. And, of course, let’s face it, if the British monarchy isn’t a good enough endorsement for wearing stylish sterling silver cufflinks, then what on earth is?
